St Kilda Adventure Playground celebrates 40th anniversary with free activities and scavenger hunt • Glam Adelaide

From a former landfill on the shores of Barker Inlet to a multi-generational family destination, St Kilda Adventure Playground has become a place dear to the hearts of South Australians.

Since its creation on 24e October 1982, St Kilda stood out from the crowd, due to its size and elaborate equipment, unlike anything seen before in South Africa.

Created by a Lions Club member in the mid to late 70s, the adventure playground features a huge castle with slides and a drawbridge, flying foxes, a large volcano with multiple slides and a shipwreck of pirate.

Now celebrating its 40th anniversarye anniversary, families will flock to the monument this weekend (Sunday, October 23), for a FREE event filled with adventure-based activities, including a scavenger hunt.

In partnership with the Salisbury Lions Club, the event will see kite demonstrations, virtual reality experiences with the Marine Discovery Centre, St Kilda Tramway Museum activations and a mobile junk and natural play area.

There will also be nature play activities throughout the day including geocaching, crafts and potion making, seed bombs, bee hotels and more.

When you do need a break from all the fun, there will also be a sizzle of sausages, drinks and food trucks available on site, including Golden Grove Lions donuts, Spuds & More, coffee and hot -dogs from Cuppagino, and the Tackle and Tucker ice cream cart and coffee.

The playground underwent a $3.5 million overhaul in 2016, which saw the installation of new attractions, additional slides, electric barbecue grills, the basketball court and a redesign of the Cockle Street entrance . If you and your kids haven’t yet discovered St Kilda’s Adventure Playground, now is the perfect time.
