Perth in line to host finals after AFL asks Joondalup Resort to book potential hub

The return of Curnow – and potentially McKay who was late for the North Melbourne game – would help make sense of the game facing the Tokyo Olympics.

The AFL is also considering how best to place Sydney and GWS, who remain in Queensland, away from the NSW lockdown.

Sydney’s important clash with Essendon – scheduled at Marvel Stadium on Friday night – will now take place in Queensland on Saturday night, while the Giants are set to face Port Adelaide in Queensland in another game that could form the top eight.

The Bombers and Swans will likely play at Gabba, so Gold Coast can host Melbourne at Metricon Stadium.

The families of the two Sydney teams are in quarantine at the Mercure hotel in Brisbane and will then join the players, where they will remain in Queensland indefinitely or be transferred to Melbourne pending a possible easing of Victoria’s COVID-19 restrictions.

Hawthorn is set to play their home game against Brisbane in Launceston, with the AFL seeking approval from the Tasmanian government – much like with the Queensland government – to set up a barren lane from Victoria.

It will become an easier request from the AFL if Victoria comes out of lockdown on Tuesday.

The Western Bulldogs will face Adelaide at Ballarat, while Fremantle will still be able to host Richmond at Optus Stadium in Perth.
